CHEAP FLIGHTS TO BUSINESS SUCCESS – PART 2
Now, let's look the second
concern...
Lack of Moral Support
This really brought me
down and held me back. So, if it’s your reason, I can understand; because, you
know... no matter how fabulous that idea is in your head, it’s never really
easy to get the next person to see your vision (no matter how close he/she is
to you).
This is my story...
After I finished my
first degree, I wanted to go into business and stay there because I had so much
passion for it (especially production) and I wanted to be my own boss (soooooo
badly..!), but my dad (who had all the say in the house) wanted me to go on to
get a Masters degree and a PhD and become a university professor. I couldn’t
get an admission into school so easily and soon, so I continued my bag business
and tried to convince him to leave me be, but he did everything to discourage
me. Although, at a point, he saw that I won’t let go, and that I was really
quite good at it and very enterprising, so he decided to support me in one way
or the other (like marketing). But, of course, the flare with him was
short-lived and he was back to his former discouraging viewpoint. I even tried
to get a job to leave the house (hahahaha... but that’s for another story).
Though, long story short, it was a painful experience to leave my passion,
especially when things got so busy with the job that I couldn’t focus on the
business well enough anymore. I went on to get the degrees he wanted for the
sake of love and peace, and I had to drop the bag business (but... that’s not
the whole story...). I kept the spirit of business alive for as long as I could
until I ventured into agro-processing.
The lessons I
learnt...? If you don’t get the support you need now, it’s ok! If the business
is your passion, keep the fire burning until you can do it with or without
their help. For the record, I’m still not getting so much support, but the
difference is that I don’t care much about anybody’s support now for as long as
it’s my passion I’m pursuing.
Next lesson...? Try
not letting your dreams known to people who aren’t usually very supportive.
Keep it to yourself
until it becomes so big that you don’t have to talk about it for it to be seen
or heard by them. I bet you, they will beg to be a part of it then.
Now, you may ask why I
stopped the bag business anyway and went on to something else. Well... that’s
another story! But you’ll hear it soon enough. However, for now, that’s my take
from my experiences on issues of lack of moral support when it comes to
starting a business, dear friends. To get some insight into how to handle the
next concern that you might have (lack of love or zeal for the chosen business
direction), please, move unto Part 3 of Cheap Flights to Business
Success.
