CHEAP FLIGHTS TO BUSINESS SUCCESS – PART 7

Image
This is going to be a 2-part session, where we will discuss the next 2 reasons why you may not want to go into or grow a business; having to worry about sustaining it (whether it’s a product or process of production/delivery, or the business as a whole), and selling/marketing the product/service. Sustaining the Business or Process This isn’t always easy.... I know. But what helps me is being honest with myself from the get-go. I love sustainability so I’m always trying to be honest with myself about what I can or cannot afford to keep doing for years and years to come, either on a small or large scale. For instance, with my bag business, when I was crocheting the bags, I could come up with more beautiful, unique, and expensive designs, but it could take me days, or at least a whole day, to finish just one purse. So, I knew I had to get a knitting machine and save time and yarn, and that would be more sustainable. You also find that doing something you love to do on a daily bas...

This is going to be a 2-part session, where we will discuss the next 2 reasons why you may not want to go into or grow a business; having to deal with raw material availability, and concerns of getting it right all the time. Raw Material Availability (Especially when it comes to Production) For me, how I tackle this in anything I want to do is to be sure that I can acquire materials and tools required to produce what I want to produce “Locally ”. I do this even before I decide to go into the business. The materials must be readily available locally so I don’t have to go through the stress and inconvenience of importing anything, and having to worry about foreign exchange issues, customs, etc. I may use imported tools (imported by some other company or person... not me), but my raw materials for production... they must be produced in my country. This way, I’m always sure of getting them for what I need to produce at any time of the year. For instance, agro-processing is very lu...

Let’s look at another reason why you may not want to go into or grow a business... Not Having the Patience or Time to Create and Grow a Business I’ll be honest with you, my dear friends.... I’ve only felt this way when planning a business I’m not that passionate about and/or just don’t have the resources for. However, coming down to someone considering venturing into business generally, here’s my advice.... You can get someone you can trust to plan one for you. This is possible. The person could give you ideas on how to go about it, and if you have the funds, you can start it up and get a manager to look over it for you. I’m not like that though. I always prefer to plan and run my own business myself. I don’t really trust people much when it comes to my passions... or my money. From experience, getting someone to manage a business for me (and people close to me) has never worked out very nicely. They end up knowing more about the business than you do, and cheating, lying and...

Another reason you may not want to go into or grow a business... Not Even Knowing the Area of Business to Venture Into Now, this is very interesting; and VERY important. The wrong decision could wreak havoc on your future, finances and morale. And you know what..? This is another reason why I stood firm on turning away from the fashion business and sticking to agro-processing. When the recession really hit Nigeria in 2016, I realized I had to look into what people will be willing to spend on; and fashionable bags..? No! I mean.., not that they couldn’t, but how much will they be willing to pay cash for? So, I decided to look into a greater line of service than improving some chic’s bag wardrobe. I recognised that the nation had issues of producing/extracting and selling/exporting primary goods, then importing more of manufactured goods, some of which she can produce. I felt that more people going into agro-processing will help the nation in various ways, and that will be mor...

This is going to be a 2-part session, where we will discuss the next 2 reasons why you may not want to go into or grow a business; the lack of love or zeal for the chosen business direction, and the disbelief in your own ability to succeed. L ack of Love or Zeal for the Chosen Business Direction Hmmm... Well... This was my experience (which answers the question of why I stopped the bag business). When I was still on with the bag business, I noticed something about me which I couldn’t quite explain then. Any time I got custom orders, or a chance to rise unto the next level, I got sluggish, and somewhere deep within me, I didn’t welcome it wholeheartedly. I wanted it though, but I just didn’t feel like I was ready for it... or like I could handle it... or like I really wanted to do it. Then.., I decided to take an honest look at myself and why this was happening. The answer..? I had such little zeal to grow or perform when it was demanded of me because my love for the busine...

Now, let's look the second concern... Lack of Moral Support This really brought me down and held me back. So, if it’s your reason, I can understand; because, you know... no matter how fabulous that idea is in your head, it’s never really easy to get the next person to see your vision (no matter how close he/she is to you). This is my story... After I finished my first degree, I wanted to go into business and stay there because I had so much passion for it (especially production) and I wanted to be my own boss (soooooo badly..!), but my dad (who had all the say in the house) wanted me to go on to get a Masters degree and a PhD and become a university professor. I couldn’t get an admission into school so easily and soon, so I continued my bag business and tried to convince him to leave me be, but he did everything to discourage me. Although, at a point, he saw that I won’t let go, and that I was really quite good at it and very enterprising, so he decided to support m...

CHEAP FLIGHTS TO BUSINESS SUCCESS – PART 1

Hello... Hmmm... Success.... Business success.... My view of success is a goal achieved; that feeling of fulfilment you get when you reach your predetermined destination. Applying that to business, it’s like when you reach that point of profit you always dreamed of, or for some, when the business begins to finance or run itself. Now, a lot of people shy away from business because they believe that their dreams of success are unachievable, and as such, discouragement is created in (and resides permanently in) their own minds even before they set up on the venture of their choosing. Here are some real reasons why people don’t bother to chase their business dreams: -          Lack of finance, -          Lack of moral support, -          Lack of love or zeal for the chosen business direction, -          Disb...
